What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a practice of widening our awareness and insight so that we can live in the present moment without judgment. The ability to watch our minds and the busyness within as an observer rather than through grasping onto thoughts, allows us to experience a greater freedom and peace of mind. The skills of mindfulness can be used in daily life to reduce stress and anxiety, be more productive and develop better relationships at work and at home and lead to a greater sense of physical and mental wellbeing.
Mindfulness is based on teachings from Buddhist traditions on maintaining a peaceful mind throughout the challenges of daily life. By having a greater awareness of our own mind we can react consciously and mindfully towards situations with compassion and kindness; for our self and others.
There can be enormous benefits to practicing mindfulness meditation within our busy lives. We can learn to live more in the present moment (rather than dwelling on the past or an imagined future), to trust in our intuition, to become more honest and forgiving with ourselves and others and to calm the agitation that so often occupies our minds.
